INSULAR HEALTH CARE TREATS 51 KIDS IN TAMBAYANI by Jinky Lanuza
On January 24, 2015 Insular Health Care partnered with Insular Life in conducting an outreach program at the Gawad Kalinga – Tambayani Center in Parañaque. Fifty-one (51) participants aged 3 to 15 years old joined us in the half-day event. The theme was taken from that of the Apostolic Visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines: “Mercy and Compassion”.
We started the event by asking the children to translate mercy and compassion in Filipino. Dr. Libao then told them the story of Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables” where the old priest told the police that he gave the eating utensils to Jean as a gift, even if Jean really stole them. This act of mercy and compassion turned Jean’s life from an evil person to that of a kind and loving person.
The kids also shared their experiences how they can show mercy and compassion to others. A coloring activity of the Pope’s picture was done. After snacks, we all walked to the nearby church to have our pictures taken with the Pope Francis standee.
All the children were given rosaries to remember us by and to remind them to show mercy and compassion to others.
It was a fun-filled and heart warming experience for both the participants and the Insular Health Care volunteers. Dr. Art C. Libao, Susan Almoneda, Regina Amadure, Elvie Baldovino, Jessamine Benavides, Maan Juta, Jinky Lanuza, and Allan Tolentino went home happy knowing they were able to touch the lives of these children even for a few hours.
