IHC Clinic Staff Celebrates Valentine’s Day with GK Kids
By Nina Marie C. Gabriel, RN
February 13 was no ordinary day for the Clinic staff. Instead of the customary hustle and bustle in the clinic, the staff had a change in their routine and were given the opportunity to spend some quality time with 59 children from the Gawad Kalinga site in Marcelo Village, Paranaque.
Love was the theme of the day with a primary focus on the love for our neighbor. A visual presentation on “The Good Samaritan” was done as well as storytelling, which was facilitated by our Medical Director and Head of Medical Operations, Dr. Arturo C. Libao. There was excitement when the heart shaped paper cut-outs were distributed to the children as they were requested to write their thoughts and messages for their loved ones.
The time was short but sweet. It was pleasant to see the children dancing and hear them singing. The children could have easily eaten the refreshments given to them. But what was touching was seeing most of them eating only a small portion and reserving a bigger part to bring home to their families. That single moment taught us that we take for granted means much to these kids. Give-away of notebooks, pencils and chocolates were handed at the end of the activity, bringing more smiles to their faces. Truly, it was a delight for the Clinic group headed by Ms. Jing Balanon, to share their time and bond with the children of Gawad Kalinga.
