Happy 26 years of Kalingang Insular Health Care!IHC Sponsors Art Class for Onesimo Bulilit Children
Insular Health Care (IHC) sponsored an art class for twenty (20) resident children of Onesimo Bulilit Foundation, Inc. (OBFI) last Aug. 12, 2017. OBFI is a faith-based, non-profit, non-government organization working with street children and sexually abused boys and girls.
One of the common problems in OBFI is the poor self-perception of the children. To address this problem, skill building activities to improve the child’s self-perception were instituted. Among the age-appropriate activities identified were painting, jewelry making, and other art and crafts activities.
It is in this context that IHC envisioned that an art class can help bring out the confidence, creativity, and yearning for love and acceptance that these children needed. Hence, one bright Saturday morning, the IHC Medical and OP-Actuarial staff visited the children in their Arlegui, Manila shelter house armed with enthusiasm and boundless energy.
The day started with games facilitated by Anna Gloria, executive secretary to the President & COO, followed by the water color painting sessions facilitated by Ms. Mia Pakingan, OBFI psychologist, ably supported by Head of Actuarial, Ms. Irene Sicadsicad and by Assistant Manager for General Services, Myrna Seguban. Dr. Art C. Libao, AVP & Medical Director provided the logistical support.
While painting, the children related their personal experiences and how they were coping with their situation. The IHC staff patiently listened and offered sound advice. There was no doubt that the children had lots of fun creating their masterpieces and proudly showed to their guests their finished art work, an indication that slowly, they are getting back their self-worth.
Come November, the Administrative Operations and Sales & Marketing staff will take their turn to facilitate the activity.
A simple merienda shared by everyone capped the morning activity. No good-byes were said, because everyone knew, that while the activity ended, the bond was just starting to develop. This time, the adults learned from the children. The children taught then the importance of listening, the value of gratitude, and the power of acceptance.IHC joins UBER PH Blood Drive Campaign
